There are a multitude of instances where either access is required up a sudden step, or emergency piping that is temporary must be placed into oncoming traffic. Due to being specialists in high-compression materials, it is understandable that there are many solutions to these issues available from Melba Swintex.
ACCESS RAMPS
The Access Ramp range is available as a 4” or 6” product providing an easy solution to navigating those curb heights. Indoor or outdoor use, the self-weighted ramp can be placed into a linear run by implementing the interlocking feature, with a water channel provided if rain happens to be forecast (outside hopefully).
SPEED RAMPS
The Melba Ramps are a heavy-duty solution to traffic calming and help discourage those eager drivers in travelling at speeds they shouldn’t be. With the 5cm suited to speeds of 15mph, and its counterpart at 7.5cm for 10mph, the ramps come in a black & yellow variation and are fitted with highly reflective road studs, so those eager beavers don’t have any excuse!
WHEELCHAIR RAMPS
Designed, tested, and approved by users with varying abilities, our wheelchair ramp range provides a secure and encouraging solution to navigating obstacles found within the traffic management world. All three ramps can be provided in a high-visibility yellow to ensure safety, and all with conformity to current legislation, the ramps ensure easy access around those street works.
CABLE RAMPS
Event organisers hate this one simple trick! Actually no, they love it. Two heavy-duty cable ramps provide protection for when you just can’t divert those important cables. With both an under or over solution, the ramps boast a high-compressive strength allowing traffic to pass over safely and with ease.

The Tuff Tread Footway Board has been on the market for the past couple of months and already we have received keen interest on its performance. After having the support and guidance from Lloyds British, the UK’s leading provider of lifting and equipment inspection services, we decided we would take it one step further and have it independently tested by the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield to the requirements of the HAUC Advice Note No. 2018/01.
The full report is available for immediate download at the Tuff Tread product page found on the Melba Swintex website, along with the original report from Lloyds British, and the Benefits & Features that the Tuff Tread has to offer.
All samples were simply supported over a clear span of 700mm, with no securing, and had the load applied by a servo-hydraulic actuator through a 250mm diameter circular pad.
The deflection of each board was monitored through a Linear Variable Differential Transducer (LVDT) positioned on the underside of the board, and directly under the centre of the circular pad.
After all the loading to the HAUC Advice Note was complete, one final sample was then tested to determine its yield strength – the point of no return.
Well What D’Ya Know.
Once all of the testing had been performed, recorded, and reviewed, it was found that:
All of the tested specimens complied with the HAUC specifications, with a maximum measured displacement under a sustained load of 400kg equal to approximately 29mm (<35mm).
All of the specimens were able to carry a maximum imposed load of 800kg without any sign of failure.
The maximum load capacity was approximately 1,500kg.
Not only does the Tuff Tread conform to current legislation, it is also 100% completely recyclable.
